This very brief article is a primer for those wanting to start developing on PostgreSQL (on Ubuntu 12.10):

Getting Ubuntu ready for (PostgreSQL related) development

  • sudo apt-get install build-essential
  • sudo apt-get install git
  • sudo apt-get install libxml2-dev
  • sudo apt-get install libxslt-dev
  • sudo apt-get install autotools-dev
  • sudo apt-get install automake
  • sudo apt-get install libreadline-dev
  • sudo apt-get install zlib1g-dev

Get Postgresql source

  • Download: http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/source/v9.2.2/postgresql-9.2.2.tar.bz2
  • tar -jxf postgresql-9.2.2.tar.bz2
  • ./configure
  • make
  • make install
